Aussie overseas Ashton Gumm smashed club records on Friday night with a blistering innings at Tottington St Johns, scoring 120 off 37 balls to lead the Bullsharks to victory in their final group game of 2025.
After the hosts invited the Bullsharks to bat at the toss, Ashton got straight to work, with 4 sixes with the first 4 balls of the innings. He continued to tear apart the bowling throughout the first 9 overs, striking 12 sixes and 10 fours, with his personal milestones of 50 and 100 coming from 12 and 30 balls respectively. When he fell in the 9th over, the score was remarkably 153-2.
Cameos from others, including Ali Hassan (30) and Sabat Ali Ahmed (29) helped Bury cash in on that start, with 257-5 recorded after the 20 overs, a score which the hosts well comfortably short in the second innings at 176-6.
On Saturday, for the 3rd game running, the 2nd XI were involved in a nail biter. After a last ball defeat in the league the week before and a 1 wicket Cup win on the Sunday, it was once again a 1 wicket victory that saw Bury defeat league leaders Unsworth.
After the visitors chose to bat, 3 early wickets from Bury stemmed the flow of runs in the first 20 overs, before a late lower order surge saw them upto a competitive 168-7.
A strong second wicket partnership between Hamzah Hussain and Joe Mitchell (27) pushed the score towards 100 in the first half of the innings. However when the captain Hussain (57) fell with the total at 102-3, Unsworth fought their way back into the game. With wickets falling at the other end, Qaisar Liaqat showed no signs of nerves and he continued to take the game to Unsworth. With 5 runs to win and 1 wicket remaining, he looked to finish it in style, and did, with a straight drive just flying over the fingertips of long on, taking him to 45* and his side to a well deserved victory.
The 1st XI fell to defeat away to Thornham on a tricky wicket which only one batsman all day managed to negotiate a sizeable contribution out of.
Home pro Alcindo Holder (105) was that man - who helped his side recover from 80-6 to posting 207-8. Ali Hassan (40) and Jon Wiggans (31) battled hard but ultimately Bury were bowled out 44 runs short of the target.
The 3rd XI game on Sunday was abandoned during the tea interval after Bury had posted a strong-looking 189-8 from 38 overs against Daisy Hill.
